LAPT Punta del Este: Brenes Cashes as Brother Alex Runs Second
The ground-breaking Season 1 of the Latin American Poker Tour closed at Punta del Este, Uruguay, and the Brenes family went home with two deep stories. Humberto Brenes finished in the money in 28th place for $5,960 — while his brother Alex ran all the way to second.
The tournament attracted 351 entries, building a prize pool of $851,175. Spain's José Miguel-Espinar won it for $241,735, but for Latin American poker fans the headlines belonged to the brothers from Costa Rica.
A landmark season for Latin poker
LAPT Season 1 was the first serious attempt to bring a flagship live tour to Central and South America. Punta del Este — the Riviera of Uruguay — was a fitting finale for a series built on regional pride, and the field turned out in force.
